Jonathän Jouan grew up in the Breton countryside of France, where the region’s folklore and natural beauty sparked his imagination and storytelling passion. He began his artistic journey studying Art History, seeking to uncover the cultural roots of creativity. However, he soon realised his true calling was in creating rather than analysing. This led him to Montreal, where he trained at the School of Art Cabinetmaking and discovered the transformative potential of working with wood combining patience, precision, and care. It was also in Montreal that he encountered straw marquetry, a delicate craft he taught himself and embraced as a cornerstone of his work, weaving storytelling into his creations. 

In 2017, Jonathän founded Jonathän Jouan Studios to design furniture and objects that merge traditional craftsmanship with contemporary innovation. After graduating in 2020, he relocated to Copenhagen, drawn by its deep design culture and commitment to sustainability. There, he continues to explore the interplay of materials like wood, straw, and brass, crafting timeless, handmade pieces that celebrate the connection between maker and user.
